Middle Moselle wine festival in Bernkastel-Kues

The city of Bernkastel-Kues celebrates the Middle Moselle Wine Festival, an important wine festival in the heart of the Moselle region. Here is an overview of the event:

Overview: The five days around the first Sunday in September in Bernkastel-Kues are particularly marked by the Middle Moselle Wine Festival. With almost 200.000 visitors, the festival is one of the largest in the Middle Moselle region.

Highlights:

Coronation of the New Mosella: During the festival, the city's wine queen is crowned.
Wine route: A large wine route, fireworks, a magnificent wine parade and various other events such as the Moselblümchen-meets-Winzerkittel evening.
Entertainment The festival offers an extensive program, including live music and wine tasting evenings.

Wine route – 300 meters of enjoyment

The wine route, which stretches over 300 meters, is the heart of the Middle Moselle wine festival. Visitors can stroll leisurely from one wine stand to the next, discover the different towns and enjoy the finest Moselle wines. In addition to the wines, numerous food stalls offer a variety of culinary delicacies, from tarte flambée and grilled dishes to vegetable dishes, burgers, gyros and potato pancakes. So there is something for every taste.
But it's not just the palate that is spoiled. There is also a lot to experience musically along the Wine Route. Various music clubs and bands provide atmospheric music and contribute to the festive atmosphere.

The Wine Route invites you to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the wine festival in a convivial atmosphere with a glass of wine, delicious food and rousing music.

With three stages, five music spots and numerous artists, the festival is very melodious. The musical offering is diverse and ranges from pop and rock to traditional music.

The entire music program offers a mix of local and national artists and bands that create an atmospheric atmosphere.

The big fireworks display

The fireworks on Saturday evening are a highlight of the wine festival and fascinate both adults and children. For almost half an hour, colorful colors illuminate the night sky, accompanied by sparkling rain and impressive displays of light. Thanks to various launch sites, such as the Bernkastel bank of the Moselle, Landshut Castle and the Moselle bridge, the fireworks offer a great variety and are therefore unique of their kind.

Traditional parade

At the Middle Moselle Wine Festival there is again the winemakers' parade with a colorful, loud and cheerful spectacle.

With numerous groups from home and abroad, the parade winds through the old town, over the Moselle bridge to Kues.

The procession is led by the Mosel wine queen and concluded by the Mosella of Bernkastel-Kues. The wine majesties from over 20 Moselle communities will also be there with their unique floats. Music clubs and various foot groups, such as Winzerkittel, Winzer anno then and Moselblümchen, complete the big parade.

Find a spot along the parade route (Burgstrasse – Römerstrasse – Market Square – Bridge – Saarallee – Nikolausufer – Schillerstrasse - Goethestrasse) and watch the colorful hustle and bustle. If you would like to find out more about the individual communities with their floats and groups, listen to the presentations in Römerstraße, at the market square or at the Brückenkopf.

Current Mosella:

The incumbent Mosella, Kira I., has been promoting the city, the region and the wine for two years. Their goal is to attract wine lovers from other cities and towns to visit Bernkastel-Kues. Kira I. comes from Kues and has pursued various educational and professional paths.

She is passionate about badminton, jogging, hiking and of course enjoying wine.

Coronation of the new Mosella Franka Port from Kues

Meaning: The coronation of Mosella, the wine queen of the city of Bernkastel-Kues, is one of the main events of the Middle Moselle Wine Festival. Mosella represents the city, the region and its wines and promotes them both locally and internationally.

Ceremony Details:

The wine festival Friday is traditionally dedicated to the Mosella. The historic market square in Bernkastel is filled with hundreds of spectators who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Mosella and her princesses on a magnificent carriage.

musical performances Municipal associations such as the Bernkasteler Bürgerwehr, Landshut Knighthood, Medieval Group and Music Association accompany the ceremony.

Over 20 wine queens from different Moselle communities and twice as many wine princesses take part in the event. They walk the red carpet to the stage, adding to the grandeur of the ceremony.

Well-known characters again Bernkastel Doctor, Knight's cellar master by Hunolstein and the herald with his companions are also present, with the herald announcing the wine festival message.

New Mosella

This year a new Mosella will be crowned. Franka Port from Kues was elected as the new wine queen.

At the age of 19, she already had her first royal experiences as a wine princess. Franka wants to approach her role with spontaneity and openness.

Her duties will include representation at official events and of course the opening of the wine festival in Bernkastel-Kues.

Her sister Giulia and her friend Luna will support her as princesses in her role as Mosella.

Crowning Mosella is a tradition rooted in history and pride, reflecting the region's deep connection to its wine heritage.
